Tim Tebow's Future part 2
So I was thinking as I was walking home a few minutes ago about Tim Tebow and the Dolphins and a comment that was left on that article. Tim Tebow probably won't make it as a first string QB as is, but he might make a really great second stringer. Then I thought of how the Dolphins sometimes use a two quarterback system. Chad Henne is the regular quarterback, but every once in a while, Pat White will be put in and he'll run a good 4 yards or so, sometimes he'll throw the ball, and after his 1 or two plays he's taken out and replaced by Chad Henne. Now Pat White is pretty small in this day of huge quarterbacks. But Tim Tebow has that toughness and quickness to be able to execute these plays. These are the kinds of plays Tebow is really good at. If the Dolphins want to continue this semi two quarterback system, or even develop it further, Tim Tebow is probably the best pick out there.
This brings up the question of how the dynamics of the game are going to change. When the Dolphins first came out with the Wildcat, they were unstoppable (Sorry Belichick) and it took a while for teams to adjust. I know the Dolphins did not invent the Wildcat, but before this it was not commonly used in the NFL. Now, because of the Dolphins employing it, teams now have to prepare their defenses for it. By that same token, if the Dolphins start employing a two quarterback system, the defense of any team will have to work twice as hard and prepare for two different styles and two different mentalities and logic. They will have to learn two different individuals and adjust to a wider spectrum of opportunities.
In the meantime, Tebow could be taught and groomed to perhaps one day take on the role of star quarterback while still participating in the game. Now the question of money, will a franchise be willing to invest that much money on someone who might not initially give good returns? We'll see what coaches and GMs think as the draft unfolds. But it's not too much of a color change from orange and blue to orange and teal. :)

Hopefully Miami will invest money into Tebow and snag him from Jacksonville. It would really make the games interesting, and of course recruit some UF fans into a heavily UM Miami.
ReplyDelete-Note: UM will always have a stronger presence in Miami for obvious reasons. Its Miami...duh! Plus UM are a bunch of thugs that don't know diddly squat, which is why they represent the city they are named after. But I still love Miami (the city not the team), read my post.
Like I tried to emphasize, taking Tebow is a bit of a risk and would require a team to change its playbook (depending on the team) dramatically. I hope someone gives him a chance too because one thing he will without question bring to any team is energy and a passion for the game which many times get lost on a professional team. We'll see...
ReplyDeleteA team will never ever change a playbook for a player, thats retarded maverick. And pat white is used for an option style offense BECAUSE he is small. He ran a 4.2 40 and Tebow ran a 4.7, a big difference. I love tim, but your logis is terrible. And tim probably cant bring any energy, the veterans will watch him cheerleading on the sideline and tell him to shutup because hes breaking their conecentration. Its not a lack of passion, its just focus during the game. college and professional football are different. theres no marching band no pep rallies.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think of it that way, the cheerleading vs concentration argument. You're right, there are huge differences between college and pro football and it extends beyond the marching band. But that's why I cited the teams that I did, because they need to be rebuilt and many elements (players, coaches, playbook etc) just aren't coming together for a reason. I am nowhere near a professional sports analyst (obviously) but logic does dictate that when something isn't working, something needs to be changed. This was meant as a speculation on what could happen if someone took a chance on Tebow and maybe some of the things that would have to change etc.
ReplyDeleteWould you please write back and give me some feedback on the actual writing? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
The writing structure is fine, but your logic is wrong. Change doesn't come from one player. The Dolphins are changing because of Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland, and Tony Sparano. This isn't Dan Marinos Dolphins, thats why draft picks have been spent on offensive lineman. Miami is a running team. Pat White is small because he is elusive, the only reason he got injured was because it was helmet to helmet and it was a cheap shot. He was going out of bounds and he didnt expect to get hit so he didnt lower his shoulder.
ReplyDeleteWell, thank you for your insightful feedback. You really have helped me see the argument in a different light, one based on fact and not my wishful thinking. I hope you come back and read some of my other posts.
ReplyDeleteJust putting my two cents in, I agree with anonymous. I know all you guys up at UF, Tebow was your Jesus, but I think you people got caught up in celebrating him a bit too much. He wasn't really that great a QB, mainly the whole team helped him. It was his O-line that gave him time to throw, and his receivers that caught his passes.
ReplyDeleteThis is the main reason I hate giving QB's praise, sure they do a lot, but who are the ones that help them accomplish those things.
Also, I don't think Tebow will even be drafted as a QB. Many people, even those anchors on ESPN predict a draft as either HB or RB, for the sole reason that he ran the ball too much. QB's aren't supposed to run the ball. And he held the most running yards for UF for that season, which why would a QB hold that record. So...Just saying, you people have too much tebow madness, which sometimes gets annoying, because he is not that good.
